ADD ANY PAYLOAD OF CHOICE
The Airboxer has been designed to be a flexible, multi-payload platform. It can be adapted for mission-specific systems and requirements, without complicated and expensive custom development. A wide variety of payloads has been integrated and operated successfully. The Airboxer VTOL UAV can operate multiple sensors at once whilst flying through the harshest environments, sending back a vast amount of high-asset data.
The Airboxer has a dedicated payload bay and mounting plate, which can be adapted to payload sizes, orientations and other requirements. It provides an unrestricted field-of-view of more than 110 degrees to the left and right of the aircraft’s center line. The maximum structural weight which can be carried as payload is 7.0 kg. General payload dimensions should not exceed 500 x 300 x 360 mm, although certain off-sized payloads can be carried without imposing abnormal restrictions on the Airboxer’s operational capabilities.
POWER AND COMMUNICATION
A wide band of electrical connections are available to power and operate one or more payloads at a time.
At 28.0 Volts, the onboard electrical system can provide up to 350 Watt of electrical power for the payload. Secondary available connections include 24, 12 and 8 Volts. For live communication to and from the payload, an IP Ethernet connection provides in excess of 40 Mbps streaming capability to the Ground Control Station. The payload connection is environmentally protected at IP67 and EMI shielded, allowing the payload to be connected to the aircraft’s shielding solution. All payload power and data streams are filtered when passing through the Airboxer’s avionics system.
At the Ground Control Station, an IP Ethernet connection is provided to relay the payload data and control to any other computer or routing system. Several computers can be connected to the ethernet system to control multiple payload systems at once. Depending on the type of payload, data can be stored on board the Airboxer. Alternatively, the live data stream can be stored on the payload’s ground computer systems.
PAYLOAD TYPES
The Airboxer VTOL UAV provides a high level of flexibility for the integration of payloads for different purposes and from different markets
Over the years, many types have been integrated. This includes:
- Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) & Laser Payloads: Stabilized gimbal systems for advanced imaging and targeting.
- Survey-Grade LiDAR Systems: High-precision Light Detection and Ranging for detailed 3D mapping.
- Magnetometers: Including both fixed and towable configurations for magnetic field measurement.
- Radio Spectrum Analysis & Wideband Antennae: Equipment for comprehensive radio frequency monitoring and analysis.
- RF Detection Equipment: Specialized gear for identifying and locating radio frequency sources.
- Gas Detection & Monitoring Systems: Instruments for identifying and quantifying various airborne gases.
- Automatic Identification System (AIS) Transceivers: For tracking and identifying maritime and other appropriately equipped assets.
- Ultraviolet (UV) Corona Fault Detection Equipment: Specialized cameras for identifying electrical discharge and potential faults in power systems.
- VHF Communication Systems: Very High Frequency radios for voice and data transmission.
- Radio Communication Relay Equipment: Systems designed to extend the range and improve the reliability of radio communications.

INTEGRATED GIMBALS
Multiple gimbals with high performance sensors and equipment have been integrated and operated successfully on the Airboxer unmanned system. Gimbal capabilities vary a lot between manufacturers and are always subject to a carefull selection by the operator. The final configuration of a gimbal is always tailored to meet specific mission requirements.
High Eye has integrated many gimbals from different manufacturers and in different configurations. New gimbals can always be integrated on request. Below is a list of gimbal sensors and capabilities which have already been flown succesfully on the Airboxer:
– EO HD or 720P daylight camera with 30x optical zoom- Level of Optical zoom
– Long Wavelength Infrared (LWIR) sensor with 3.3x optical zoom or fixed FOV
– Medium Wavelength Infrared (MWIR) cooled sensor with 14x optical zoom
– Laser target designator
– Laser range finder at 1K and 10K
– Multiple moving object detection
– Moving object tracking
– EO and IR image overlapping
– Onboard data recording and live data transmission
